Frequently Asked Questions
Why see a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are experts in treating mental illness. Unlike other mental health providers (psychologists, therapists, general practitioners, psychiatric nurse practitioners, etc.), we are trained medical doctors who are board-certified in psychiatry. We specialize in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients through evidence-based practices. Many of our patients find it helpful to supplement talk therapy with our medication management services.
What does treatment with us look like?
We are a boutique psychiatry practice that aims to provide our patients with a higher quality service. For this reason, we limit the number of patients we treat, offer flexible appointment times, focus on individual care, and are easily-accessible to our patients via phone and e-mail. There are no hidden fees or charges for communications between appointments.
Why see a doctor virtually instead of in person?
We recognize that there are many barriers to mental health treatment. Telehealth offers many benefits that traditional in-person treatment model does not by allowing patients to get care from the comfort and privacy of their homes. We prescribe the same medications virtually that we would at an in-person visit and are able to offer our services to patients throughout Washington state.
Do I need medication?
We understand that medication is not appropriate or necessary for all patients and conditions. For that reason, at the initial consultation we provide alternative treatment recommendations and work with our patients to devise an appropriate treatment plan to meet their goals.
Do you prescribe controlled substances?
We prescribe Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances consistent with DEA rules and regulations in line with standard of care. We do not provide esketamine.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance. Payment must be made by credit card at time of booking.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is not a bill. It is a document that we can e-mail you after your appointment, which you can then submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many insurers will reimburse 50% or more of the cost of your visit.
